Gautam Buddha Nagar: Making administrative history, IAS officer Medha Roopam has been appointed as the new District Magistrate (DM) of Gautam Buddha Nagar, becoming the first woman ever to hold the post in this 26-year-old district. She replaces Manish Kumar Verma, whose 2.5-year tenure is being hailed as one of the most dynamic and impactful in recent years.

Who is Medha Roopam?

A 2014-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Medha Roopam is known for her sharp administrative acumen and people-centric governance. Prior to this posting:

  • She served as DM of Amroha, where she earned praise for streamlining public services and improving district health indicators.

  • She was also posted as Additional CEO of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), giving her deep familiarity with the Noida-Greater Noida development ecosystem.

  • Roopam is regarded as one of the trusted officers of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, having handled several politically and administratively sensitive assignments. Delhi University alumna, she is known for her balanced approach, decisiveness, and keen focus on transparency in government services. Her appointment comes at a time when the district is undergoing rapid infrastructural, real estate, and civic expansion – requiring strong and gender-inclusive leadership.

With Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh and DM Medha Roopam, now both being women, GBN stands out as a shining example of empowered governance.

The Transition: Manish Kumar Verma’s Tenure

Outgoing DM Manish Kumar Verma, a 2011-batch IAS officer, has been transferred to Prayagraj as part of a large-scale IAS reshuffle affecting 23 officers across the state.

During his tenure in Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Verma oversaw:

Key Achievements:

  1. Real Estate Crackdowns: Acted decisively against fraudulent builders, blacklisted erring developers, and enforced RERA compliance.
  2. Noida International Airport (Jewar): Played a vital role in coordinating land acquisition, farmer compensation, and inter-agency approvals for this landmark infrastructure project.
  3. COVID-19 Management: His proactive district-level response, including oxygen monitoring and hospital capacity planning, was nationally appreciated.
  4. Law & Order Coordination: Worked closely with Commissioner Laxmi Singh to reduce crime through tech-based surveillance and quick FIR tracking.
  5. E-Governance Push: Launched several digital grievance redressal portals for citizens, reducing delays in service delivery.

He was often praised for his approachable style, decisive crisis management, and close engagement with RWAs and civil society.

DM Verma brought stability and focus to GBN during a very critical phase. From Covid recovery to real estate reforms.
