Noida: Due to increasing air pollution in Delhi-NCR, the air is constantly becoming ‘poisonous’. The Noida Authority is making many promises to curb air pollution. In view of this, an air pollution control tower was started in Sector-16A Film City, but the anti-smog tower has completely failed. Currently, the tower has been sent to Hyderabad for repair. It was installed about three years ago.
Official data missing
This tower, installed in November 2021 with the joint efforts of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Noida Authority, was sent to the Research and Development Center in Hyderabad about one and a half months ago. The data of last year pertaining to the tower is being analyzed there, and after the necessary improvements, it has been planned to install it back. However, no fixed time has been set for the return of the tower. Apart from this, no official data on the tower’s impact has been made public.
The tower was commissioned on November 17, 2021
Tower was installed in Noida for the first time in Uttar Pradesh. The Air Pollution Control Tower was inaugurated on 17th November 2021 by the then Union Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey. At that time it was claimed that some more similar towers would be installed in such places in the city where the pollution level is high. However, no other such tower has been installed in the city so far.
It used to make the air within a radius of 1 kilometer pollution-free
At the time of inauguration, it was claimed that this tower could clean 80 thousand cubic meters of air per hour. The height is 20 meters and the circumference is 7 meters. It will filter out dust particles up to PM 2.5 from the air and take out clean air. This tower will improve the air quality within a radius of one kilometre. In such a situation, the air quality was to be improved in Sector-16, 16A, 16B, 17A, 18, DND and Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
The Authority does not have any data
The tower has shut down many times after it was started and has broken down many times. Many times the tower stopped working due to a lack of electricity and no generator. Apart from this, the tower has remained shut for a week at times. Noida Authority does not have any information now about how much air was cleaned in which area after the tower was installed and how much air quality improved due to this tower.
