Noida : The DDRWA Federation Gautam Budh Nagar has written to the Chief Executive Officers of the Noida Authority and Greater Noida Authority, urging immediate cleaning of all small and large drains across Noida and Greater Noida before the arrival of the monsoon season.
In the letter, the federation highlighted the worsening sanitation conditions across the district and warned that delayed cleaning of drains and sewer lines could once again lead to severe waterlogging during rains, as witnessed in previous years.
Garbage piles and mosquito menace are creating a health risk
According to the federation, heaps of garbage have accumulated on roads and inside drains in several areas, causing foul smells and inconvenience to residents. The rotting waste has also led to a sharp increase in mosquito breeding, raising fears of the spread of serious seasonal diseases.
The letter stated that poor maintenance of drains and unchecked dumping of waste materials are worsening the situation across Noida and Greater Noida.
Delay in drain cleaning tender process raises concern
The federation mentioned that as per weather forecasts, pre-monsoon rainfall is likely to begin in the Delhi-NCR region by the last week of June. However, it is alleged that both authorities have not yet initiated the tender process or other required formalities for large-scale drain cleaning work.
The organisation warned that if the cleaning work is not completed before the monsoon arrives, residents may once again face massive waterlogging problems across both cities.
Illegal dumping and sewer discharge choking drains
The federation also raised serious concerns over the condition of major drains in Noida. It is alleged that sewer waste and sludge are regularly discharged into large drains by sewer department operations, leading to blockages. Additionally, unauthorised vendors operating near drains and nalas were accused of dumping rotten vegetables, fruits, plastic waste, sacks and other garbage directly into the drainage system, further obstructing water flow.
Federation demands completion of cleaning work by June-end
In the memorandum, DDRWA Federation office bearers NP Singh and Sanjeev Kumar appealed to both authorities to immediately prioritise the cleaning of all drains and sewer channels and ensure that the work is completed by the end of June.
Timely action could help prevent severe waterlogging and reduce health risks for residents during the upcoming monsoon season.
