Important steps are being taken in Uttar Pradesh to promote electric vehicles and strengthen the green transport system. According to the plan, Uttar Pradesh aims to set up 238 public EV charging stations. This initiative is part of the strategy to strengthen the charging network in the state and attract investment.
In the first phase, 238 public EV charging stations will be set up, where 714 chargers will be installed. A 10-year contract has been proposed for the operation of these stations. Charging stations built on government land will be used only for EV charging activities. Different levels of subsidies will be provided for stations at railway stations, airports, metro stations, petrol pumps, toll plazas, and other public places. The charging network will be developed not just in cities but also along major highways.
Charging stations will be set up in these cities: Gautam Buddha Nagar-39, Lucknow-36, Meerut-35, Gorakhpur-32, Varanasi-28, Agra-21, Mathura-14, Prayagraj-13, Kanpur Nagar-12, Ghaziabad-6, and two charging stations will be set up in Kanpur Dehat. With this, the total number of locations will reach 238. These charging stations will be built on land available with municipal corporations, development authorities, electricity distribution companies, UPSRTC, district administration, and other government departments. This includes land from Noida, Lucknow Municipal Corporation, Varanasi Municipal Corporation, Meerut Municipal Corporation, and Gorakhpur city.
Need 250 to 300 square meters of land. Different standards have been set for charging stations in cities and on highways. Inside cities, about 40-60 square meters of land is allocated, while on highways, 250-300 square meters will be needed for larger charging hubs. This proposal includes installing high-capacity DC fast chargers for buses and trucks at highway stations. Information on government land has been requested at the Chief Secretary level to set up charging stations, aiming to create a strong public charging network for EV users across the state.
