Biryani, pizza, and burgers were especially in high demand. According to a Swiggy report, people in both big and small cities rushed to their favorite comfort foods to celebrate the new year.

The report states that New Year’s celebrations began early in small cities. Cities like Patna, Surat, Vadodara, Nagpur, Jaipur, Pune, and Indore started receiving orders from the evening of December 31. In the initial hours, cakes, pizzas, and biryani were the most trending items.

People often ask what India’s favorite party food is. Biryani has once again proven that it is the preferred party food in India. By 7:30 PM yesterday, 218,993 biryanis had been ordered. Just before 8 PM, as many as 1,336 biryanis were being ordered every minute, which was a record. The scale of the celebration can be gauged from the fact that In Bhubaneswar, a customer ordered 16 kilograms of biryani alone.
Who was in second place
There was intense competition between pizza and burgers throughout the evening. By 8:30 PM, more than 218,000 pizzas had been delivered. Meanwhile, over 216,000 burgers were ordered. This shows how diverse the country’s food preferences are. Some orders were quite unique. A customer in Bangalore ordered 100 burgers at once. Meanwhile, a user in Goa placed a large order of 39 portions of kebabs, tikkas, and other items. In Gurugram, a customer ordered 18 boxes each of brownies and plum cake. A user in Nagpur placed more than 93 orders throughout the day, while a customer in Surat ordered from 22 different restaurants on December 31 alone.
Sweet craze at night
As the night progressed, the charm of Indian sweets began. Around 10:30 PM, the top 5 most ordered sweets included rasmalai, carrot halwa, and gulab jamun. Meanwhile, for the start of 2026, pizza emerged as the most popular choice.
