The much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), initially scheduled to open in April, will now be inaugurated in June, according to Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, which is building the airport.
In a social media post on Sunday, Adani described the project as “a glimpse into India’s aviation future,” adding that it would “redefine connectivity and growth” for the country. He referred to the upcoming airport as “a true gift to India.”

First Phase Set to Open in 2025
While the Adani Group previously hinted at a first-half 2025 opening, the airport is steadily moving towards full operations. A commercial flight validation test was conducted in December 2024, marking a major milestone in its journey.
The greenfield airport will have two parallel runways, allowing two aircraft to land and take off simultaneously, as per NDTV.
The Navi Mumbai airport will be developed in phases. Once fully completed, it will be able to handle over 90 million passengers per year.
- Phase 1 Capacity: 20 million passengers per annum (MPPA)
- Cargo Handling: 800,000 tonnes per year
- Runway Length: 3,700m , capable of accommodating large commercial aircraft
With the inauguration now delayed by nearly two months, actual domestic flights and cargo operations are expected to begin in July, once all security protocols are in place. International flights could start by the end of the year or early next year, according to officials.
