The Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway will soon be accessible from Bhiwandi. Having said that, the final touches are being made on the 76-kilometre stretch between Igatpuri and Amane near Bhiwandi, which is expected to be finished by the end of this month.
Once completed, the expressway will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, according to officials from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
At present, drivers can access the expressway from Igatpuri near Nashik to Nagpur, a 625 km stretch. Plans to partially open the 76-km stretch between Igatpuri and Amane in late 2024 were delayed due to the formation of the state government. Instead, the decision was made to complete all construction and open the stretch at once, as per Hindustan Times.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 520 km of the expressway, officially known as the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, between Nagpur and Shirdi on December 11, 2022.
Former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde opened the 105-km stretch from Shirdi to Bharvir on May 23, 2023. An additional 25 km between Bharvir and Igatpuri was opened to motorists on March 4, 2024, without a formal event.
At Amane, the expressway connects with the under-construction Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, linking the Jawaharlal Nehru Port on one end and Gujarat on the other.
Currently, a temporary provision allows vehicles to move between the Mumbai-Nashik highway and the Samruddhi Expressway.
Originally announced in November 2015, construction of this new access-controlled highway began in February 2019. The project was divided into 16 packages, and toll collection has been approved for 40 years.
