Ministers From Five Non-BJP-ruled States To Meet In Kerala For 16th Finance Commission Discussion

The office of Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal released a statement on Wednesday stating that the meeting is taking place at a crucial moment when the states are facing major financial and developmental challenges.

Ministers from five states not ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will gather here on Thursday to deliberate on important matters pertaining to the 16th Finance Commission. They claim that the nation is facing difficulties with economic federalism.

The office of Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal released a statement here on Wednesday stating that the meeting, which Kerala is hosting, is taking place at a crucial moment when states are facing major financial and developmental obstacles.




It stated that the primary goal is to discuss these issues with the 16th Finance Commission, which is presided over by Dr. A. Arvind Panagariya, and look into possible remedies.

The high-level conclave, which will be attended by prominent dignitaries such as Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, and Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, will be opened by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.




Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly V D Satheesan, prominent economist and former central government advisor Dr Arvind Subramanian, former Kerala Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac, and Vice-Chairman of the Kerala State Planning Board Prof V K Ramachandran are among the other notable attendees.

The event will be supervised by Balagopal.
