Mahindra & Mahindra unveils commercial electric four-wheeler ‘e-ZEO’ | Company News

The latest electric four-wheeler from Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.’s subsidiary, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML), was named e-ZEO on Monday.
The automaker’s newest electric vehicle (EV), the “e-ZEO,” stands for “Zero Emission Option,” and is made to be environmentally friendly. September 9 is World EV Day, and the manufacturer is announcing its newest endeavor on that day.
MLMML offers a wide range of last-mile mobility vehicles with power sources including diesel, gasoline, compressed natural gas (CNG), and electricity. The company’s notable models include the four-wheeled Mahindra Jeeto, the three-wheel Alfa series, and the electric-only Zor Grand and Treo lines.
Mahindra wants to break into the small commercial vehicle (SCV) market, which is currently dominated by internal combustion engines (ICEs), with the “e-ZEO.”
The design of e-ZEO
With its high-voltage architecture, the e-ZEO will be a viable and sustainable choice for businesses thanks to its improved range, faster charging times, and higher energy efficiency. The car is anticipated to be essential to urban logistics and support Mahindra’s larger initiatives to hasten India’s adoption of electric vehicles.
“After leading the last-mile electric three-wheeler vehicle space, we are thrilled to unveil the name of our four-wheeler, ‘e-ZEO,’ on World EV Day,” stated Suman Mishra, MD & CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility. This is in line with our mission to revolutionize urban logistics and promote the use of electric vehicles in the sub-two-ton class.
October 3, 2024, is the planned date of the e-ZEO’s official introduction, which would signal Mahindra’s arrival into the commercial four-wheeler EV market.
Mahindra & Mahindra stated earlier this year that it would invest Rs 12,000 crore in its EV division, Mahindra Electric Automobile, over the following three years.
India’s EV sales
With 156,199 electric vehicles sold in August 2024—a 22.8 percent year-over-year rise from 127,206 units sold in August 2023—India’s EV market has experienced significant development. Due to a large base effect and the expectation of festive season specials, August 2024 sales decreased by 13% from July 2024, although it was still the third-highest month after March and July.
Together, the top five EV sellers sold 81,824 units in August, with Ola Electric selling the most at 27,517, followed by TVS Motor selling 17,613, Ather Energy selling 10,830, and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility selling 5,128. In the first eight months of 2024, total EV sales topped 1.23 million units, according to data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
