LG claims Kejriwal’s health decline due to ‘willful low calorie intake’ | India News

Delhi Even though Arvind Kejriwal receives home-cooked meals while incarcerated, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has suggested that the chief minister’s health may be declining as a result of his “wilful low calorie intake.” Saxena has asked prison officials to make sure Kejriwal follows his prescribed medical diet and insulin regimen religiously.

Saxena brought to the chief secretary’s attention concerning details of Kejriwal’s food and insulin usage while his incarceration at Tihar Jail.

The letter said that, even though Kejriwal was given enough home-cooked meals, there were multiple instances of “willful low calorie intake” by the CM, citing a report from the superintendent (prison) regarding Kejriwal’s health.

After being arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a corruption case involving the excise policy scam, Kejriwal is presently being held at Tihar Jail. In an unrelated Enforcement Directorate (ED) case, he was given temporary bail.

“This deficit has led to noticeable weight loss, sparking health alarms due to his known medical history of Type-II Diabetes Mellitus,” the letter stated.

Saxena’s observation of abnormalities in Kejriwal’s insulin delivery and blood sugar monitoring further exacerbated the problem. On July 7, Kejriwal allegedly refused to take his insulin shot before supper, which sparked concerns about potentially serious health issues. This was a noteworthy event.

In the letter, he stated that “such irregularities heighten the risk of severe health complications.”

Saxena ordered prison officials to make sure Kejriwal follows his doctor’s orders about his insulin dosage and nutrition. Saxena emphasised the need for strict blood sugar monitoring procedures and the significance of avoiding any potential medical emergency or legal repercussions.

Additionally, the home department of the Delhi government has been informed of this instruction.

Sanjay Singh, a member of the Rajya Sabha for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), further brought attention to the seriousness of the situation on July 13. He stated that Kejriwal has dropped 8.5 kg since his incarceration, implying a serious illness. Singh claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were plotting to put Kejriwal behind bars and endanger his health.

“The chief minister has lost weight from 70 kg to 61.5 kg since his arrest,” Singh had stated.

Kejriwal’s attorney, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, raised concerns about the health of the activist in the Delhi High Court, citing a potentially fatal decrease in Kejriwal’s blood sugar levels while he was sleeping. Singhvi stated that a rapid drop in blood sugar could be fatal and characterised the condition as exceedingly dangerous.

It’s concerning that Kejriwal’s blood sugar fell to 50 while he was asleep. A drop in blood sugar while you sleep can be fatal since you could not wake up. Three orders are already in our favour, so we ask the court to view this case holistically and sensibly,” news agency ANI cited Singhvi as saying.

Representing Kejriwal in his appeal against the CBI’s arrest, Singhvi contended that since Kejriwal was already in court, the agency had no basis for the arrest. He called the arrest of Kejriwal a “afterthought insurance arrest” with no justification, pointing out that during his five months in CBI custody, his blood sugar had dropped below the 50-mark five times.

Can they detain Kejriwal until he gives them the information they desire? Every time he claims to be innocent, it’s written off as a noncommittal response. It is said that whatever he says is evasive. The truth must be ascertained by the court, Singhvi contended.
