Greater Noida West: Residents of La Residentia Society, Greater Noida West, got relief after the Forest Department rescued seven owls from the society premises following several incidents of owl attacks at night. The rescued birds included two adult owls and five young ones. The Forest Department team, with assistance from a wildlife conservation NGO, conducted a search and rescue operation at different locations inside the society.
Seven residents reportedly injured in owl attacks
The owl-related incidents had created fear among residents, particularly during the night. According to residents, the birds had swooped down and scratched people with their claws. Around seven residents were reportedly injured, including some who sustained injuries to their heads. Following the incidents, several residents had stopped walking around the society at night due to concerns about further attacks.
Forest Department inspected society before rescue
La Residentia resident Sumil Jalota said the Forest Department team had inspected the society on Saturday after being informed about the incidents. The team identified possible locations where the owls were staying and monitored their movement. With support from a wildlife conservation NGO, the birds were subsequently located and safely rescued from different spots across the society.
Rescued owls released at Surajpur Wetland
After the rescue operation, all seven owls were safely released at the Surajpur wetland area, allowing them to return to a more suitable natural habitat. The Forest Department has also advised residents to remain cautious, particularly after dark. Residents have been advised to stay in adequately lit areas and cover their heads with a cap or other protective covering when stepping outside at night.
Residents have been asked not to approach or attempt to catch any owl they spot on the premises and instead inform the Forest Department or the relevant wildlife rescue team. The rescue of the seven owls has brought considerable relief to residents of La Residencia, who had been concerned about moving around the society after dark.
