Greater Noida West: Lifts are considered the lifeline of highrise apartments and when the lifts stop working, the life stops. Panic spreads and everyone prays for the lift to get well soon. They run to the maintenance office and request the builder they leave no stone unturned but the lift takes time. But do residents have that much time to wait especially when they live on the highest floor or when there is a case of pregnancy or elderly? What if a medical emergency occurs? Such conditions La Residentia residents are facing just now.

A resident has written a complaint to the project team, La Residentia

I am writing on behalf of the residents of Tower 29 in La Residentia to bring to your urgent attention the ongoing issue of the non- functional lifts, which have now been out of service for the past six consecutive days. Despite multiple verbal escalations and requsts, there has been no clear communication regarding the cause of the issue or a timeline for resolution. This lack of clarity is adding to the distress of the residents, and the situation is becoming increasingly unmanageable and unsafe.

The gravity of the suffering caused:

Residents, including young children, elderly individuals, and women, are being forced to climb stairs up to the 22nd floor, multiple times a day.
Children are missing school due to the difficulty in commuting.
Pregnant ladies reside in the tower, and this situation poses a serious risk to their health and safety.
Domestic help is refusing to come, creating an additional burden on working families.
Delivery agents, including those delivering medicines, milk and essential groceries, are refusing to climb, disrupting access to daily
necessities.

This is not just an inconvenience—it is a clear breach of safety and basic livability standards. If not addressed immediately, it may lead to a serious health emergency or accident.

Know what Emergency Facility Act says –

As per the Emergency Facility Act and basic occupancy regulations, functioning lifts in high-rise residential buildings are a mandatory service. Continued failure to restore this essential facility and lack of emergency alternatives will leave residents with no option but to explore legal actions and report this matter to the concerned housing authorities and regulatory bodies.

Residents are requesting –

  1. An immediate update on the cause of the issue.
  2. A clear timeline for when the lift will be fully functional.
  3. Immediate deployment of any temporary alternatives for residents, especially for elderly and pregnant women

It should be noted that there are 3 pregnancy cases, kids being deprived of going to school, old age people are helpless, important deliveries like medicines have been stopped.
