Police departments in all states and union territories are required to submit reports on the state of law and order every two hours, as authorised by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). This order is in reaction to demonstrations by medical professionals, nurses, and other witnesses after a postgraduate trainee physician at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was raped and killed.
The home ministry stressed the necessity for close monitoring of the law and order situation in light of the ongoing demonstrations in a fax to the police commanders.
The competent authorities have expressed their intention to keep an eye on the state’s law and order situation in relation to the killing of a medical student at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. According to the MHA, starting from 1600 hours today, a continuous two-hourly law and order situation report in this respect may be provided to the MHA control room (New Delhi) via fax, email, or WhatsApp.

1) India Today said that the autopsy report indicated that “manual strangulation associated with smothering” was the cause of death. In addition to over 14 injuries, the investigation showed evidence of forceful penetration. It also indicated blood clots throughout the body and bleeding in the lungs, even though there were no fractures discovered. The incident was categorised as a homicide because the cause of death was determined to be “manual strangulation associated with smothering.”
2) Following the tragedy, the government of West Bengal has put in place a number of initiatives to improve women’s safety at work, with a focus on hospitals run by the state.
Among these efforts are the installation of “safe zones” under CCTV surveillance and designated retiring rooms, which are intended to safeguard women who work night shifts.
3) In response to the recent assault at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, which resulted in the violent rape and murder of a female trainee doctor, resident doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and several hospitals in Delhi have organised a unique “OPD” protest.
The medical professionals will begin their protest on Monday by providing outpatient care (OPD) on the road outside Nirman Bhawan in Delhi, which is home to the Union Health Ministry office, as per a press release released by the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) on Sunday.
4) The mother of the junior doctor, age 31, has charged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with trying to quell the state’s expanding demonstrations in reaction to the horrifying incident. She also chastised the Kolkata Police for not conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
