Greater Noida West : A serious lift malfunction incident has been reported from Himalaya Pride, where young girls, who had come for Kanya Poojan on the last day of Chaitra Navratri, were trapped inside a lift for nearly an hour. A woman was also present with them and kept trying to calm the children throughout the ordeal.
Children panic as the lift gets stuck mid-way
According to residents, the lift suddenly stopped between floors and became completely jammed. The children inside, terrified by the situation, began crying loudly and calling for help. Their screams alerted other people in the tower, who quickly gathered near the lift area.
Residents attempted to open the lift themselves but failed due to a technical fault.
Rescued after an hour
After nearly an hour of effort, maintenance and lift staff managed to open the lift and safely evacuate everyone. Several children were visibly distressed and weak from crying. They were made to sit down and given water before they recovered.
Not the first incident
Residents and AOA representatives claim this is not an isolated case:
- On March 7, a lift reportedly experienced a sudden drop-like situation.
- On March 8, multiple incidents of people getting stuck were reported.
Despite repeated complaints, residents allege that neither the builder nor maintenance teams have taken adequate corrective action.
Safety concerns for over 1,100 families
The society houses more than 1,100 families including children, elderly and patients. Frequent lift breakdowns have now become a serious safety hazard.
Bigger concern
This incident once again highlights systemic negligence in lift maintenance in high-rise societies. Residents warn that if immediate corrective measures are not taken, a major accident could occur in the future.
