Greater Noida West: The construction quality of high-rise societies in Noida and Greater Noida (Gautam Buddha Nagar) has once again come under scrutiny. Homebuyers who spent vast sums—ranging from lakhs to crores—to purchase these flats are now concerned about their safety. A series of recent incidents has instilled fear among the residents. They allege that builders charged premium prices yet delivered flats that fail to meet quality expectations.
Residents say that during light storms or inclement weather, plaster sometimes falls from the walls and ceilings, while at other times, basements get flooded. Consequently, they feel cheated; the home they purchased, envisioning it as their dream abode, is now becoming a threat to their safety.
Plaster Falls from Ceiling at Ajnara Le Garden
The latest incident comes from the Ajnara Le Garden society in Greater Noida West. On Thursday night, around 8:15 PM, a large chunk of plaster suddenly collapsed from the ceiling of flat number 2205, located on the 22nd floor of Tower G. Fortunately, no one was beneath the falling plaster at the time; otherwise, a serious accident could have occurred.
Rekha Dixit, a resident of the flat, stated that she was sitting on the bed with her son when the incident occurred. The plaster fell right next to the bed; had it fallen directly onto the bed, a serious accident could have occurred. Accusing the maintenance team of negligence, she said that despite repeated complaints regarding cracks and other issues, no effective action is taken. She alleges that the maintenance department often tries to evade responsibility by suggesting that residents hire outside repairmen.
Such incidents have occurred in the past as well.
Residents of the society state that this is not the first time incidents of falling plaster have occurred. Similar complaints have been raised on several occasions previously, yet no permanent solution has been implemented. The residents allege that, despite their complaints, the builder and the maintenance management fail to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
Recently, a person died in an incident where plaster collapsed at the Arihant Ambar Society in Greater Noida West. If concrete steps regarding construction quality and safety measures are not taken even after this, the risk of even more serious accidents in the future will persist.
Growing Concerns Over Safety
A series of recent incidents has heightened the anxiety of thousands of families living in Greater Noida’s high-rise societies. Residents warn that without timely, comprehensive inspections and necessary repairs, a major accident could occur in the future.
Consequently, the residents’ primary demand is for structural audits of all older high-rise buildings, an assessment of construction quality, and the implementation of strict safety measures to restore confidence in the safety of their homes.
