Five Army personnel are believed to have drowned after being washed away in a T-72 tank near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Nyoma-Chushul region of Ladakh early on Saturday, according to officials.

It was during an exercise about one in the morning that they say the incident happened, 148 km away near Mandir Morh.

According to the officials, while the tanker was crossing the river, flash floods caused the T-72, carrying five troops, to sink.

An attempt at rescue has been made. More information is anticipated.
