FasTag Rule: Government has tightened rules regarding Fastag, know them or you will have to pay double the fine

FasTag Rule: The government has made the rules related to FASTag stricter for travelers on highways in India. Now, if for any reason your toll is not deducted at the toll plaza, you may have to pay double later.

Payment must be made within 72 hours
According to the new rules, if a vehicle’s toll payment cannot be made through FASTag—whether due to low balance, a faulty tag, or technical issues—it is mandatory to pay the toll amount within 72 hours.

If the payment is not made within this timeframe, the vehicle owner will have to pay double the toll (double charge).

Why was this rule introduced?
The government’s main aim is to make toll collection transparent and fast. Many times, people deliberately or due to technical reasons do not make the payment, leading to revenue loss and affecting the system.

This new rule will ensure that every vehicle driver pays the toll fee on time.
Proper use of FASTag is necessary
If FASTag is not working properly, such as:

  • Balance is low
  • Tag has been blacklisted
  • Or it is not installed correctly

In such situations, if payment is not made, you may have to pay additional charges later.

Earlier, there was a rule that without FASTag or with incorrect payment, double toll had to be paid.

Preparation for a fully digital toll system in the country
The government is also working towards making the toll system completely digital soon. According to reports, in the coming time, cash payment on highways may be completely stopped, and payment will be only through FASTag or UPI.

What impact will it have on vehicle owners?
After this new rule, drivers will need to be more alert.

  • It will be necessary to check FASTag balance before traveling
  • Tag should be correctly installed
  • Any failed transaction should not be ignored
If these things are not taken care of, even a small mistake can cost you double.

The new FASTag rules clearly indicate that the government will no longer tolerate any negligence in the toll system.

This is a big step towards Digital India, but along with this, vehicle drivers will also have to take responsibility. Only by making timely payments and using FASTag correctly can you avoid additional fines.
