Cyber fraud worth crores in the name of insurance ‘bonus’, fake call center busted in Noida

Noida the police have busted an illegal call center while exposing a major cyber fraud gang. A joint team of Cyber Crime Police Station, Sector-36, and Sector-63 Police Station conducted a raid on a fake call center operating in H-198 building, Sector-63. The police have arrested 13 cyber criminals from the spot, who were defrauding people across the country of crores of rupees in the name of insurance policies.

Police investigations revealed that the accused used to call people by claiming to be agents of well-known insurance companies. Initially, after gaining their trust, they tempted the victims with policy renewals, huge bonuses, increased surrender values, or extra benefits. After that, the victims were made to deposit money into different bank accounts. The defrauded amounts were withdrawn through mule accounts and shared among themselves.

As per information DCP Cyber Crime Shaivya Goyal stated that the arrested accused are educated. The mastermind of the gang, Chhatrapal Sharma, has an MBA, while other accused Sameer is a B.Com graduate and Suhail is a B.A graduate. The remaining accused have passed 12th grade and were working as telecallers in a call center.

The police have recovered 31 mobile phones, 2 laptop chargers, a modem, a P&T telecaller system, 721 work data sheets, and two diaries from the scene, which contained data of thousands of potential victims. Cases have been filed against all the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and IT Act, and further investigation is underway. The police are now searching for the gang’s bank network and data suppliers.
