Greater Noida West : The bike theft incident reported from Samriddhi Grand Avenue, Greater Noida West, which initially raised concerns about delayed FIR registration and poor security arrangements, has now taken an unexpected turn. Shortly after Apartment Times published the story, the responsible police station reached out to clarify that their version of events was significantly different from what had been circulated.

Now, the question arises: when neither the complainant nor residents initially mentioned police negligence, why did Girish Shukla suddenly bring the police into the matter—questioning their competence and claiming they weren’t doing their job? The narrative appears to have shifted unnecessarily, creating blame where none was originally directed.

Police claims: No reluctance in filing FIR

According to the police, there was never any hesitation in filing the FIR. Ruchi Saini, Incharge, Nirala Estate Chowki, stated, “We were fully prepared to assist the complainant and that the e-FIR mechanism was already in progress. We have been cooperating with the victim from the very beginning of the case.

Interestingly, the victim, Piyush Kumar, confirmed that he was fully satisfied with the police procedure.

The police had been supportive throughout and I had no complaints regarding their approach, response time or investigation method.

If the victim was satisfied, How did the matter escalate?

This immediately raises a bigger question. Upon inquiry, Piyush revealed that the situation was not pushed by him or triggered by a lack of Police action.

The issue was amplified internally within the society. I had only informed the society’s WhatsApp group about the theft to alert residents and nowhere implied that the police were incompetent or unresponsive.

Resident allegedly circulated press release without consent

However, a resident, Girish Shukla, Founder of NGO and resident of same society, allegedly took the matter into his own hands. Without Piyush’s consent, he drafted and circulated a press release using the victim’s name and shared it across multiple media groups. The situation escalated to the point where police officials questioned the publication about alleged shortcomings in their duty. Surprisingly, Shukla did not respond to any WhatsApp messages, yet quietly prepared the news and circulated it to media groups, seemingly to create sensationalism.

Misinformation through misinterpreted CCTV footage

The confusion further intensified when a CCTV video clip, actually showing Piyush and his friend riding the bike, was circulated externally as footage of a thief stealing the vehicle. This misinterpretation added an unnecessary sensational angle to the narrative and caused panic among residents who believed they had credible visual evidence of theft. Clarifying the situation, Piyush stated, “That was me in the footage,” yet Girish allegedly described the clip as if a thief was running away after stealing the bike.

Police action requires records and evidence

Throughout the case, Piyush has maintained that the police have been cooperating fully. Police also say that any official action requires documentation, CCTV footage and supporting evidence. Without such records, the police cannot legally proceed or make arrests. Everything takes time and nothing in his experience suggested negligence on the part of law enforcement.

A reminder on responsible behaviour in societies

This incident also sparked a conversation around responsible behaviour within gated communities. People should remain within their boundaries, avoid sensationalism and refrain from modifying information or circulating press material without permission. Police also wants to know that why someone would take such steps when the victim neither asked for assistance nor endorsed any such action.

Sincere advice from UP Police that – One should be vigilant but not a “game player and before targeting the Uttar Pradesh Police, individuals must be extremely cautious and fact-check their claims.

Investigation continues smoothly

At present, the investigation continues without obstruction. The police is cooperating, the victim remains satisfied and internal discussions among residents have resumed regarding communication ethics and accountability.

While the initial version painted a picture of bureaucratic delay and administrative failure, updated facts reveal that this controversy was largely driven by misinformation and unauthorized involvement. The episode serves as a reminder that not every viral outrage reflects systemic breakdown, sometimes, internal misrepresentation and exaggeration are equally responsible for blowing matters out of proportion.
