The AI startup Krutrim, which was founded in December of last year by Bhavish Aggarwal, the CEO and co-founder of Ola Cabs, revealed on Thursday that it plans to design, develop, and introduce its first AI chip by 2026.
The initial chip family in development is dubbed “Ojas” for edge computing, “Sarv” for general compute, and “Bodhi” for artificial intelligence. Additionally, the business announced that Bodhi-II would debut in 2028. For this reason, the business formed a strategic alliance with Arm and Unteher AI, two major worldwide chip manufacturers.
“India has a unique opportunity to become a global superpower in technologies of the future, like AI,” stated Aggarwal at Ola Sankalp 2024. With one of the biggest talent pools for technology and a source of 20% of the world’s data, India is well-positioned to spearhead the AI revolution.
Additionally, the business declared that by 2028, Krutrim’s data centre capacity would increase to 1 GW. The capacity is currently 20 MW.
Aggarwal transferred Ola’s workloads from Microsoft Azure to its own Krutrim Cloud a few months ago. Aggarwal stated at the event today that Krutrim AI now has over 50 additional services available, making it suitable for the majority of applications needed by Indian developers.
According to the company, Krutrim Cloud will broaden the scope of its offerings to include infrastructure domains, developer platforms, data platforms, AI models, AI platforms, and AI applications.
Ola Electric and Ola Cabs are already utilising the Krutrim AI, according to Aggarwal.
Aggarwal stated that more than 25,000 developers have utilised Krutrim Cloud and more than 10 million people have used the Krutrim chat app, providing information on how well-liked Krutrim has been by Indian developers. Furthermore, since its inception in early 2024, 250 billion API (application programming interface) calls have been made across all products. Additionally, he mentioned that in the previous six months, over 1 trillion tokens had been generated on Krutrim.
The business added that until Diwali, cloud services valued at Rs 100 crore would be provided for free.
Ola Consumers has replaced Ola Cabs.
Bhavish Aggarwal also said during the Ola Sankalp 2024 event that Ola Cabs will now be known as Ola Consumers as the firm expands its customer service offerings.
“Our goal with this company goes beyond mobility—it is to genuinely make consumption accessible to every Indian,” stated Aggarwal.
Initially, Ola Cabs brought back its Ola Share function for its ride-hailing offerings. This will be made available in Bengaluru as of right now, and it will also be extended to other locations.
Aggarwal also declared the opening of Ola Coins, a loyalty program that will work with a number of Ola services.
Speaking about the growing demand for speedy delivery and the trend of quick commerce, Aggarwal declared that only automation could provide the necessary scale. Aggarwal also announced the opening of an automated warehouse that will be made available to companies on ONDC.
