BMRCL has 33 trains for the Purple Line and 24 for the Green Line, and even a single train diversion would impact the schedule.
The much-awaited Green Line metro stretch between Nagasandra and Madavara, which got its official clearance a month ago, still hasn’t opened, leaving commuters frustrated.
According to Deccan Herald, the 3.14-km line, with stops at Manjunath Nagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara, was completed almost eight years ago at a cost of Rs 298.65 crore.
Even after receiving statutory clearance on October 4, the line remains closed, awaiting final government approval. On October 18, the Urban Development Department reached out to the Ministry of Urban Affairs and Housing, but the green light is yet to come.
Bengaluru residents raised concerns over the delay, noting that the new line could help reduce the heavy traffic on Tumakuru Road, especially after long weekends.
BL Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), explained, “We have to follow the protocol. The government has to give us the go-ahead.”
Shankar AS, Executive Director (Operations and Maintenance, BMRCL), assured that the metro is “fully ready” to operate trains on this line. He also clarified that once the Nagasandra-Madavara stretch opens, Green Line trains will no longer need to support the Purple Line, which has been challenging with 33 trains on the Purple Line and 24 on the Green Line. “If we divert even one train, it will impact service frequency,” he added.
When fully operational, trains on the Green Line will run every five minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes during other times, providing much-needed relief for Bengaluru’s daily commuters.
