Bengaluru‘s Namma Metro is all set to give commuters a new shopping and dining experience.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has revealed plans to bring retail outlets, shops, and cafes to 55 metro stations along the busy Purple and Green Lines, according to The Hindu.
The move is part of BMRCL’s mission to enhance passenger convenience and bring in extra revenue. BMRCL will lease out empty spaces for various shops, including food stalls, convenience stores, and personal care outlets. This will allow passengers to quickly grab snacks or essentials during their commute.
According to Hindustan Times, a BMRCL official shared that they are looking to fill these spaces with businesses that meet commuter needs while following strict guidelines. “We’re allowing essential services that enhance the metro experience. But items like alcohol, tobacco, gambling products, and LPG or kerosene use are banned to keep the metro safe and family-friendly,” the official explained.
BMRCL has marked out 220 vacant spaces across the selected stations, offering a range of sizes to suit different types of shops. Interested businesses can check the tender document for details on space layouts, rental fees, and guidelines.
While some stations, like M.G. Road and Indiranagar, already have a few commercial spots, many businesses faced tough times during the pandemic. As metro foot traffic returns to normal, BMRCL is confident this new retail push will bring life back to these stations and boost non-fare revenue.
