Greater Noida West : Ajnara Homes Society once again witnessed a disturbing stray dog attack after an eight-year-old child was bitten inside the society premises, turning a routine evening of play into a traumatic experience for the child and his family. The incident has reignited concerns over the recurring menace of stray dogs in high-rise housing complexes across the region.

Evening play turns traumatic

The incident occurred around 6 pm, when the child was playing in the society’s common area, as he did every day. According to eyewitnesses, while returning home, the child reached the podium area where four stray dogs suddenly attacked him. Panic-stricken, the child tried to run but was surrounded by the dogs. During the chaos, one of the dogs bit him.

Hearing the child’s screams, nearby residents rushed to the spot, following which the dogs fled. The injured child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors administered first aid along with anti-rabies vaccination. Hospital sources confirmed that the child is out of danger.

Family traumatized after the incident

The child’s father, Dharmendra Kumar Rai, said his son Aditya Rai had gone out to play as usual but returned injured within minutes.

It was a terrifying experience for our family. While my son is physically stable now, he is mentally shaken after the attack.

Fear grips the society, Children confined indoors

Following the incident, fear and anxiety have gripped Ajnara Homes Society, which houses over 2,200 families, including a large number of children, women and senior citizens. Residents say they are now hesitant to allow their children to play outdoors unattended. Many parents have begun personally escorting their children to and from school vans, while women and elderly residents report feeling unsafe within the society’s premises.

Not an isolated incident

Residents insist that the attack is not an isolated case. Over the past few years, multiple stray dog attacks have been reported across Greater Noida West and nearby areas. Previous incidents include elderly residents being bitten in basement parking areas, women being chased by packs of dogs inside housing societies and even police personnel reportedly attacked during routine patrols. Several of these incidents were captured on CCTV and circulated on social media, but residents say lasting solutions have remained elusive.

Allegations of negligence by maintenance and management

Residents have accused the society’s maintenance and management authorities of prolonged negligence, claiming that the stray dog problem has existed for a long time without any effective intervention. After the latest incident, residents who approached the maintenance department alleged that they received no concrete response. Some further claimed that instead of addressing the issue, staff members attempted to downplay the seriousness of the attack and exert pressure.

Open dog feeding cited as a key issue

According to residents, open feeding of dogs within the society’s premises has contributed significantly to the rising stray dog population. They allege that the maintenance management failed to regulate dog feeding practices or coordinate with municipal and relevant departments for sterilisation, vaccination or relocation measures.

Complaints filed, Action awaited

The victim’s family has lodged a formal complaint with the local police and senior authorities, attaching the child’s medical report. However, residents allege that despite several days having passed since the incident, no concrete action has been taken by the administration.

Residents warn that unless urgent and coordinated measures are implemented to address the stray dog issue, such incidents could recur and pose a serious threat to public safety, particularly to children and senior citizens.
