After historic high, UPI transactions see marginal dip in June to 13.89 bn | News

The Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) had an 11% increase in volume in June, reaching 100 million, compared to 90 million in May and 95 million in April.

June saw a slight decrease in the volume and value of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) transactions compared to May, when the system broke all prior records by completing 14.04 billion transactions totaling Rs 20.45 trillion.

Based on information released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Monday, UPI volume was recorded at Rs 20.07 trillion in June 2024, with a value of 13.89 billion.

Compared to the same month in 2023, there was a 49% increase in volume and a 36% increase in value. Numbers for May 2024 were the highest since UPI began operations in April 2016 in terms of both value and volume.

In June, there were 517 million Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transactions, a 7% decrease from 558 million in May. Value-wise, IMPS transactions decreased by 5% in June to Rs 5.78 trillion from Rs 6.06 trillion in May. In April, this was recorded as 550 million units and Rs 5.92 trillion in value. Comparing June’s results to the same month last year, there was a 10% increase in volume and a 15% increase in value.

The number of FASTag transactions also decreased by 4% in May, from 347 million to 334 million. In terms of value, this decreased by 2% in June to Rs 5,780 crore from Rs 5,908 crore in May. FASTag was valued at Rs 5,592 crore and 328 million in April, respectively. Comparing the month to June 2023, there was an increase in value of 11% and volume of 6%.

The number of transactions using the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) increased to 100 million in June from 90 million in May and 95 million in April, an 11% increase in volume. Additionally, it increased in value by 7% to Rs 25,122 crore from Rs 23,417 crore in May. In April, this was Rs 25,172 crore.
