GREATER NOIDA WEST: The much-awaited 700-metre-long underpass at Gaur Chowk is set to begin trial runs today, November 5, bringing fresh hope to thousands of commuters travelling through one of Greater Noida West’s busiest traffic junctions. While residents have welcomed the development, they are now urging the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) to consider another crucial infrastructure demand: construction of an underpass at Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir Chowk in Sector 1.

Residents flag another major traffic bottleneck

Residents say that although the Gaur Chowk underpass is expected to improve traffic movement, congestion continues to trouble commuters at several other intersections across Greater Noida West. Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir Chowk has emerged as another major traffic bottleneck, with commuters frequently facing long queues and delays, particularly during morning and evening peak hours.

Now one more underpass is required at Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir Chowk, Sector 1. Hope the concerned department will take the initiative for this too. People have to face a lot of traffic jams.

Residents believe that an underpass at this junction could significantly improve traffic movement and reduce pressure on surrounding roads. They have urged GNIDA and other concerned departments to examine the feasibility of the project and initiate necessary action.

Gaur Chowk project expected to ease congestion

The Gaur Chowk underpass, which runs parallel to the Yamuna Expressway, is 700 metres long and designed as a six-lane facility. The project has been sanctioned at a cost of approximately Rs 92 crore.

Construction began in July 2024, with an initial completion target of 18 months. However, the project faced delays due to restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) and work stoppages during peak traffic hours.

The underpass is expected to provide smoother connectivity between Greater Noida, Gaur City and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway by allowing vehicles to bypass the busy junction.

Residents seek a comprehensive traffic solution

The opening of the Gaur Chowk underpass for trial runs marks an important development for Greater Noida West commuters. However, residents believe that addressing congestion at individual junctions is equally important to ensure smoother traffic movement across the region.

With the demand for an underpass at Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir Chowk gaining attention, residents are now looking towards GNIDA, the district administration and traffic authorities for a concrete response. They hope the authorities will take up this demand with the same urgency and work towards a long-term solution to Greater Noida West’s growing traffic problems.
