Noida: Uttar Pradesh is rapidly expanding its electric mobility ecosystem, with the state now ranking third in the country for public EV charging infrastructure, according to information shared by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). The state has so far recorded 17.67 lakh registered electric vehicles, reflecting the growing adoption of electric mobility as an alternative to conventional petrol and diesel-powered vehicles. The increasing number of electric vehicles is also helping reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuels. In urban areas, growth has been particularly evident in e-rickshaws, electric two-wheelers, electric cars, and other electric vehicles.
Public charging network expands
UPNEDA Director Ravindra Singh said a strong public charging network is essential for encouraging the wider adoption of electric vehicles. Keeping this requirement in mind, the state has been continuously strengthening its public EV charging infrastructure. The expansion of charging stations is aimed at making charging more accessible to EV users, particularly those travelling longer distances.
According to the information shared, charging infrastructure is being expanded across major cities, national and state highways and important transportation routes.
17.67 Lakh EVs registered in UP
The registration of 17.67 lakh electric vehicles highlights the rapidly growing demand for EVs in the state. Electric mobility has gained traction across multiple vehicle categories, with e-rickshaws and electric two-wheelers forming an important part of the growing EV ecosystem. Electric four-wheelers and other categories are also contributing to the expansion of the market. The increasing adoption of EVs is expected to help reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel, particularly as more users shift towards electric alternatives.
Charging infrastructure key to EV growth
