Greater Noida: In a bid to make the city cleaner and reduce plastic pollution, the Greater Noida Authority has launched the Develop Responsible Outlook for Plastic (DROP) initiative to install special plastic collection bins in residential societies. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with IPCA and Kia India under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The first phase of the project will see the installation of special plastic bins in 40 housing societies, primarily those classified as Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs).
Dedicated Vehicle Deployed for Plastic Waste Collection
To ensure efficient disposal and recycling, a dedicated vehicle has been deployed to collect plastic waste from the special bins on a daily basis. The collected plastic will be transported to a processing facility, where it will be recycled into reusable products. The initiative aims to create a structured system for plastic waste collection and improve recycling practices across the city.
Awareness Campaign Launched Alongside the Initiative
The programme was formally inaugurated on Friday by Greater Noida Authority officials. General Manager (Projects) A.K. Singh, Senior Manager Chetram Singh and Assistant Manager Gaurav Baghel flagged off the collection vehicle from the Authority office.
An awareness programme was also organised at the Authority auditorium, where a street play highlighted the environmental and health hazards caused by excessive use of plastic and polythene. The performance encouraged residents to reduce plastic consumption and adopt recycling practices.
A display of products made from recycled plastic waste was also showcased outside the auditorium to demonstrate the benefits of recycling.
Focus on Waste Segregation in Housing Societies
Addressing the gathering, General Manager A.K. Singh said the special plastic bins would be installed in societies that have already implemented segregation of wet and dry waste.
Assistant Manager Gaurav Baghel stressed that Bulk Waste Generators have a significant responsibility in ensuring proper waste segregation and processing. He urged residents to use separate bins for wet and dry waste and actively support the city’s efforts to become plastic-free.
IPCA Highlights Need for Responsible Plastic Management
IPCA Secretary Ajay Garg and Deputy Director Dr. Radha Goyal said the initiative is aimed at promoting systematic plastic waste management through recycling and reuse. They added that awareness campaigns would also be conducted to encourage residents to minimise the use of single-use plastics.
Greater Noida Authority ACEO Shrilakshmi VS appealed to citizens to dispose of waste responsibly and continue segregating wet and dry waste to help build a cleaner and greener city.
Residents, RWAs and Students Participate
The launch programme was attended by IBA President Amit Upadhyay, representatives from several Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and school students, reflecting a collaborative approach towards improving waste management and environmental sustainability in Greater Noida.
