Water crisis deepens across Noida amid rising summer demand
Noida : Residents are facing a severe water crisis as rising temperatures and disruptions in water supply continue to affect several sectors across the city. Despite repeated complaints from residents and demands from RWAs, the Jal Department has been unable to provide a lasting solution, leading to growing frustration among households struggling to meet their daily water needs.
According to residents, more than a dozen sectors are experiencing irregular water supply, low pressure and in some areas even contaminated water. While some residents are forced to wait for hours to collect water, others are relying on purchased water due to an inadequate supply reaching the upper floors of residential buildings.
Faulty pumps and infrastructure issues blamed
Residents of Sector 70 have alleged that a damaged water supply pump and malfunctioning machinery have severely impacted water distribution in the area. Similar complaints have emerged from Sector 108, A Block and Sector 82, where low water pressure has prevented water from reaching homes, especially those located on higher floors.
In Sector 108, residents have repeatedly complained about muddy and dirty water being supplied to households. In Sector 82, many families have reportedly been forced to purchase water as the municipal supply is unable to reach upper-storey apartments.
Water wastage due to pipeline leakages
The crisis is further compounded by leakages in water pipelines across various sectors. Residents claim that thousands of litres of water are being wasted daily due to unattended leaks, while many neighbourhoods continue to suffer shortages.
Officials have acknowledged that water demand increases significantly during the summer months. However, residents argue that preventive measures should have been taken well in advance to avoid the recurring crisis.
Residents raise concerns over delayed projects
Lokpal Yadav, a resident of Sector 70 and General Secretary of the Sector 70 RWA, alleged that a Ganga water connection and three new tubewells were supposed to become operational by April 30. However, work on the projects has not yet started, leaving residents dependent on an already stressed water supply system.
He also claimed that some pump room facilities are being misused for unauthorised residential purposes, affecting maintenance and operational efficiency. Residents say multiple complaints have been submitted, but little action has been taken so far.
Dirty water supply adds to residents’ woes
In Sector 28, residents have complained about receiving dirty and discoloured water. They allege that despite raising concerns repeatedly, the issue remains unresolved. Residents say the poor quality of water poses health risks and adds to the hardships caused by the supply shortage.
Anjana Saini, a resident of Sector 28, said water-related problems become more severe every year during the summer season and authorities should begin preparations much earlier instead of responding after complaints start pouring in.
Authorities assure action
Officials from the Ganga Jal Project Department have stated that complaints are addressed as soon as they are received. According to officials, a new electricity line was installed for the Sector 70 tubewell around ten days ago and efforts are underway to resolve ongoing issues. They have also assured residents that any remaining supply problems will be rectified within the next few days.
Residents demand long-term solutions
As temperatures continue to rise, residents across Noida are demanding long-term improvements in water infrastructure, timely maintenance of pumps and pipelines and faster execution of pending projects. They argue that recurring summer water shortages highlight the urgent need for better planning and accountability to ensure uninterrupted access to clean drinking water.
