Greater Noida: concerns over the deteriorating condition of green belts, central verges and parks across the city have intensified, with residents alleging prolonged neglect despite substantial public spending on maintenance contracts. In a formal representation addressed to Dhirendra Singh, members of an active citizens’ group have highlighted the deteriorating condition of key green stretches, raising questions about accountability and upkeep.

According to the complaint submitted by Harindra Bhati of the Active Citizen Team, several prominent stretches, including the central verge along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway from Kasna to Pari Chowk and further up to Surajpur, have been left unattended for months. Residents claim that overgrown vegetation, dry patches and lack of basic horticultural care have turned once well-maintained green corridors into neglected spaces.

The issue is not limited to arterial roads. Parks and green belts in residential sectors such as 36, 37 and Chi-3 and Chi-4 are also reportedly facing similar neglect. Areas around Pari Chowk, considered a central landmark of the city, have seen visible decline in park maintenance, further aggravating residents’ concerns.

Residents argue that the situation is particularly alarming given that crores of rupees are allocated through tenders for the maintenance of these green spaces. “Despite significant financial outlays, the condition of parks and green belts continues to deteriorate, indicating a serious gap in execution and monitoring,” the complaint notes.

The representation urges authorities to take immediate corrective measures and ensure proper maintenance of all parks and green belts across Greater Noida. Citizens have called upon the Greater Noida Authority to intervene, strengthen oversight and restore the city’s green infrastructure.

With environmental concerns and rising urban heat becoming pressing issues, residents stress that preserving green belts is not just an aesthetic necessity but a critical ecological priority.
