Greater Noida: The menace of stray dogs continues to raise serious safety concerns in parts of Greater Noida, with a fresh incident reported from Ajnara Panorama Society in the Dankaur police station area. A retired defence ministry official was severely injured after being attacked by a stray dog inside the residential area of the society.

Sudden attack during evening walk

The victim, Dr Dirgh Narayan, a 1977-batch civil servant who served nearly 27 years in the defence ministry, was taking a walk with his wife within the society premises when the incident occurred. According to him, a stray dog suddenly lunged at him and continued the attack despite his attempts to defend himself. His wife also tried to scare the dog away, but it did not retreat.

Wife’s alertness helps save life

Dr Narayan sustained multiple injuries, with bite marks reported at 13 places on his body. His wife raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents who rushed to the spot. After considerable effort, the dog was driven away. The injured official was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The incident has triggered panic among residents of the society, which houses around 50 families. Residents claim that the stray dog issue has persisted for a long time, and despite repeated complaints to the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, no concrete action has been taken. Following the attack, locals have filed a complaint at Dankaur police station demanding strict measures.

Allegations of administrative negligence

Residents allege that despite guidelines issued by the Supreme Court of India, effective action, such as capturing stray dogs and relocating them to shelters, is not being properly implemented. They argue that continued inaction is putting lives at risk and are urging authorities to intervene urgently.
