Greater Noida West: A sudden spell of monsoon rain turned basements of multiple high-rise societies in Greater Noida West into waterlogged zones, sparking outrage among residents and mockery across social media. The phrase “Swimming pool promise fulfilled” trended online as viral videos exposed the glaring shortcomings in the region’s drainage infrastructure.

A downpour of just 37 mm brought life to a standstill in many parts of Noida Extension. The worst-affected areas were basement parking spaces in residential complexes, including Mahagun Mywoods, Casa Woodstock, Supertech Eco Village 1, Shri Radha Sky Gardens, and Aims Green Avenue. In many cases, parked vehicles were seen half-submerged in brown, stagnant water.
What was once marketed as world-class infrastructure quickly gave way to frustration and ridicule.

Power Cuts, Damaged Infrastructure
The flooding wasn’t just limited to inconvenience. At several locations, water entered electrical shafts and panels, leading to power outages. In Siddharth Vihar, Ghaziabad, some residents faced blackouts lasting up to nine hours. In Sector Mu-2, a short circuit led to a fire in a power panel, further compounding the crisis.
Elsewhere, two road sections caved in due to soil erosion caused by water stagnation, temporarily disrupting vehicular movement in the area.
‘Swimming Pool’ Joke Goes Viral
A particularly sharp public response came via social media. One viral tweet showed a flooded basement with the caption, “Builder promised a swimming pool. Didn’t think it’d be in the parking lot.” Several residents shared similar videos tagged with sarcastic hashtags like #BasementPool and #MonsoonMagic.
These visuals attracted thousands of shares, amplifying demands for accountability from builders and local authorities.
Residents Demand Structural Fix
Multiple Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) have written to the Greater Noida Authority demanding immediate desilting of drains, redesign of basement slopes, and better rainwater discharge systems. They argue that while rainfall levels weren’t unusually high, the lack of proper slope planning and clogged drainage systems created a dangerous situation.
