In particular, cases of fraud through UPI (Unified Payments Interface) have increased. Lakhs of people across the country use UPI, and transactions worth crores of rupees are taking place every day. In such a situation, it becomes important that people are aware of fraud cases related to UPI.
How is UPI fraud happening?
Cybercriminals are now using fake UPI apps, which look just like real UPI apps. These criminals will first make a transaction on your number take a screenshot of it and send you a fake message, telling you that money has come to your account through UPI. After this, they call you and say that money has been sent to your account by mistake and ask you to send your UPI number to return the money as soon as possible.
UPI users need to be cautious
If something like this happens to you, you should immediately check your bank statement before taking any action. Make sure whether money has come to your account or not. If the money has not come, then you should call the cyber crime helpline and complain.
