IndiGo is considering offering internal candidates the gender-neutral honorific “Mx” as part of broader initiatives to increase diversity.
Additionally, the nation’s biggest airline, which holds a 62% domestic market share, wants to double the number of disabled workers it employs.
According to an airline representative, the honorific “Mx” is being considered for internal candidates.
IndiGo’s Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Sukhjit S. Pasricha, the airline has launched a number of efforts for the LGBTQ+ community, including employee referral programs made expressly to promote employing LGBTQ+ people.
This has improved internal resources for candidate mobilisation and promoted an environment that is more welcoming to LGBTQ+ staff members. We collaborate with recruitment firms that specialise in LGBTQ+ candidates,” he stated.
He claims that LGBTQ+ people are steadily being hired by the airline and are performing a variety of jobs, including flying.
He went on, “Our benefits, which include live-in partners’ inclusion in the medical insurance and gender reassignment surgery, have created an even more inclusive space and have been one of the attractive features in our outreach to aspiring candidates from the community.”
The airline employed 36,860 people permanently as of March 31, 2024, comprising 5,038 pilots and 9,363 cabin crew members.
“Our business employs more than 240 disabled people in customer-facing positions in more than 60 cities. Many considerations, including as safety, the need for accommodations, and skill mapping, go into placing people with disabilities.
“Merit-based hiring is our top priority, and we have hired people with disabilities primarily for customer service and executive roles in airport operations; some of them have even served in cargo teams,” Pasricha stated.
Additionally, he stated that the airline’s goal for the upcoming fiscal year is to hire twice as many people with disabilities.
