Google Search to expand AI Overviews to six new countries including India | Company News

On Thursday, Google Search said that, more than two months after the US launch of the feature, AI Overviews would be made available in six more countries, including India.

The function, which debuted in the US in May of this year, provides users with a search bar preview of a topic or query based on a range of sources, including web sources.

Google Search in the UK, India, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil will get the feature.

Additionally, Google noted that local language support will be available for each country’s experience.

“In India, we’re rolling out AI Overviews in both Hindi and English as well as popular India-first features that were well-received during our Search Labs experiment. These features help you easily switch between Hindi and English results using the language toggle button and listen to text-to-speech responses by tapping the ‘Listen’ button,” the company stated in a blog post.

Google also unveiled a new desktop AI Overviews right-hand link display, which is also available on mobile devices by pressing the site icons in the top right corner of the screen.

The business stated, “These updates are starting to roll out globally today for Search Labs users in more than 120 countries and territories, as well as for AI Overviews in all launched countries.”

Google plans to gradually push out this expansion for the AI Overviews function over the next few weeks.

According to Google, during testing, it discovered that Indian consumers were paying more attention to AI Overviews than users in other nations.

“We’re noticing that individuals are visiting a wider variety of websites to get assistance with more complicated issues, according to AI Overviews. The company added that customers are more likely to spend more time on websites they visit when they click from search result pages with AI Overviews because these clicks are of higher quality.

Google added that, in an effort to make AI Overviews easier to access, it was now evaluating the inclusion of links to pertinent websites straight within the text.

Early findings from this experiment indicate that showing links to auxiliary webpages within AI Overviews is increasing publisher site traffic. In a blog post, Google stated, “We’ll keep experimenting with different approaches to present information that’s most helpful for people, while prioritising approaches that drive traffic to relevant websites.”
