Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn a Delhi High Court ruling that had upheld his arrest by the CBI in a corruption case over the spirits policy. The Delhi High Court, on August 5, affirmed Kejriwal’s detention as lawful and ruled that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had acted without malice. The high court instructed Kejriwal to petition the trial court first in order to request regular bail, even though it upheld his arrest.

An official reported on Monday that a stampede at Baba Siddhanth Temple in Bihar’s Jehanabad district resulted in at least seven fatalities, mostly kanwariyas, and sixteen injuries. It seems that there was a dispute among the kanwariyas on a certain matter, which was followed by an altercation and scuffle that resulted in the stampede, according to District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey. According to her, the incident happened on Sunday at about 11:30 p.m. “A stampede at the Baba Siddhnath Temple in Makhdumpur, Jehanabad district, resulted in at least seven fatalities and nine injuries. The situation is currently under control since we are keeping an eye on everything,” she told ANI. The incident happened on Makhdumpur block’s Vanavar hill.
The Indian Navy has asked for permission from the government to build two nuclear-powered submarines that are outfitted with conventional weaponry (SSNs). This request is in reaction to the Navy’s “Project Delta” project, which has been delayed and will result in a smaller submarine force. Three decades ago and approved by Prime Minister Modi’s cabinet in 2015, the submarine plan allows for the building of six SSNs (nuclear-powered assault submarines) that will be stationed in the Indo-Pacific area.
