After eight and a half years with the e-commerce company, Manish Tiwary has left as the country head of Amazon India. Without providing specifics, those close to the situation claimed that Tiwary intends to take up a new position at another company. There were rumours that he will stay on at Amazon until October, managing the company’s festival season.
Amit Agarwal, SVP of India and Emerging Markets, will continue to work closely with the Amazon India team, directing its capable leadership group to capitalise on this opportunity, the company announced. Although Tiwary’s resignation was being discussed internally, insiders said that Agarwal’s email to the India leadership team on Tuesday made it known to the public. It has come to light that Agarwal’s correspondence highlighted Amazon’s “strong leadership bench that is ready to step up.”
Citing Agarwal’s letter, a source stated, “India is an important priority for Amazon, offering a big opportunity to invent on behalf customers and digitally transform lives and livelihoods.”
Tiwary worked with Unilever for more than 20 years in the fast-moving consumer goods industry in India, the Gulf, and North Africa, spanning multiple categories and channels, before to joining Amazon in 2016.

Tiwary, an MBA graduate of the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore and a computer engineer from BIT-Mesra, was supposed to work for Tatas like his parents. Rather, in 1995, he started working for the consumer products company Hindustan Unilever. He spent more than twenty years there.
Since 2013, Amazon has made over $6.5 billion in investments in the Indian e-commerce market, competing against Walmart-owned Flipkart, Reliance’s JioMart, and the Tatas.
Amazon has had numerous difficulties in the nation. Trade associations filed a lawsuit because they believed that Flipkart and Amazon posed a danger to small-town stores. It was claimed that the Indian Competition Commission had opened an inquiry into preferential treatment. In a legal battle with Future Retail, which is managed by Kishore Biyani, Amazon has also been trying to block the retailer’s $3.4 billion merger with RIL.
