La Residentia Society: Acute water shortage, Residents are carrying buckets to the 25th floor

Greater Noida West: La Residentia Society is facing severe water shortage. More than two thousand families of the society are dependent on private tankers for drinking water as the supply of drinking water in the complex has completely stopped. According to residents, they have not been getting a drop of water from the flat’s tap for the last several days. People are forced to fill buckets from tankers standing on the ground floor and carry them to their homes to meet their daily needs.

Rajesh Sharma, a Resident says, “This situation is now unbearable. People wait for hours every morning in queues to fetch water. This is affecting our daily work. This problem is not limited to La Residentia only. Similar problems are being seen in many other housing societies of Greater Noida West.

This problem has become even more serious in the last few years

An official of the Greater Noida Development Authority, on the condition of anonymity, says, “Efforts are being made to ensure adequate water supply for the growing population of the area. Some new projects are underway which will soon solve this problem.

Environmentalists are worried

However, environmentalists believe that the root of the problem lies elsewhere. The groundwater level in the area has fallen by about 30 feet in the last decade. This is a matter of serious concern and requires a long-term solution.

Anita Gupta, the Social activist, says, “We need to adopt water conservation measures immediately. Also, techniques like rainwater harvesting have to be implemented on a large scale.” While officials are assuring a solution to the problem, residents of La Residencia and surrounding areas are waiting for relief. They hope that soon they will get relief from the problem of this acute water shortage.
