The National Institution for Transforming India, or NITI Aayog, was notified by the Indian government on Tuesday.
Some new ministers in the recently formed administration have been named as either special invitees or ex-officio members of the Aayog, although the top positions in the premier public policy think tank remain untouched.
The Aayog’s chairman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will continue to be followed in office by Vice Chairman Suman K. Bery, and full-time members VK Saraswat, Ramesh Chand, VK Paul, and Arvind Virmani.
“Embracing a vision for holistic development and innovation, NITI Aayog is on a journey of transformative initiatives that promise to redefine India’s future,” the think tank stated.
The new ex officio member is Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The following new members were added as special invitees after being included in the Union Cabinet: Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda, Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Minister of Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy.
