Tech centre of our efforts to transform, scale: Kotak Mahindra Bank MD, CEO | Company News

The Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kotak Mahindra Bank, Ashok Vaswani, stated in the bank’s annual report for 2023–2024 that “technology will be at the centre of our efforts to transform and scale.”

“At this stage, it is appropriate to address the recent RBI order,” stated Vaswani, who assumed leadership of the private sector lender on January 1, 2024, in response to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) recent action.

“We had fully embraced the idea over the last few years that leveraging technology is fundamental to growing the business,” he stated. We had considerably increased our resources and technological investments in order to achieve this. But it’s clear that there is still work for us to do. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sent the private lender an order on April 24 of this year to stop accepting new credit card applications and onboarding new users via its mobile and online banking platforms.

“Significant concerns arising out of Reserve Bank’s IT examination of the bank for the years 2022 and 2023 and the continued failure on part of the bank to address these concerns in a comprehensive and timely manner,” according to the banking regulator, spurred the move.According to Vaswani, the bank needs to respond much more quickly because of shifting client expectations, the rapid expansion of the company, and the changing risk environment.

He continued, “We are fully committed to increasing our resources and commitments in this area, and I have every confidence that working together as a team, we can deliver and take this as a chance to leapfrog.” Vaswani continued, “It is also very clear that technology will be at the centre of our efforts to transform and, consequently, scale.”

He has commended Uday Kotak, the bank’s former MD and CEO, for creating an extraordinary company that guided its expansion from a bill discounting operation to the most varied financial institution in the nation. In addition, he has given Kotak credit for assembling a capable management group that has contributed significantly to the bank’s long-term success.

Customers are the bank’s most significant stakeholder, according to Vaswani. “Every financial product and service we offer serves as a tool, not as the goal in and of itself. Therefore, it becomes crucial to make sure we are present and fulfil the customer’s needs on their terms, according to Vaswani.

If we do this well, our clients will reward us with their patronage and loyalty. We will be able to grow our company and increase our market share as a result of this strategy. We currently hold a sizable market share. He continued, “We will strive to hold onto our position while also promoting growth in other business categories.
