Sanitation workers returned to the field back as strike called off.

Noida: Sanitation workers returned to work on Friday, July 06, 2024, as the strike was called off the night before, following an agreement on a salary hike with the Noida Authority

‘Strike has ended’

Sanitation workers had been on strike under the leadership of All India Safai Mazdoor Sangh. SP Singh, Deputy General Manager, Public Health Department, Noida Authority, says, “The strike had ended and the employees would pick up the garbage from Friday.”

Workers would be paid Rs 14,700 instead of Rs 13,200

The workers, who were earlier offered a hike of Rs 800, were assured of a hike of Rs 1,500 by AG Enviro. Now, they would be paid Rs 14,700 in place of Rs 13,200.

Umesh Sharma, RWA President, Sector 122 informs, “Residents hurled a sigh of relief as garbage had been piling in homes and streets for the last four days.”

While the sanitation workers were on strike, residents expressed anger over the lack of waste pickup from residential sectors or any alternate measures from authorities during such periodic strikes. Many took to social media platforms to vent their anger, fearing the spread of diseases during the monsoon months.
