The industry regulator Trai said on Thursday that Bharti Airtel’s AGR grew at the fastest rate in the March 2024 quarter, while Reliance Jio earned the highest adjusted gross revenue, or Rs 25,330.97 crore, on which the government bases its calculations for spectrum and licence fees.
From Rs 22,985 crore in the same quarter last year to the most recent January-March quarter, Reliance Jio’s adjusted gross revenue (AGR) increased by 10.21%.
In the March 2024 quarter, Airtel’s annual growth rate (AGR) increased by 13.25% to Rs 20,951.91 crore from Rs 15,500.36 crore in the previous year.
Loss-producing Vodafone Idea reported an annual growth rate (AGR) of 2.22 per cent, from Rs 7,210.63 crore to Rs 7,370.75 crore.
The AGR for state-owned BSNL and MTNL, which are worth Rs 1991.61 and Rs 156.61 crore, respectively, decreased by 4.41 percent and 13.78 percent, respectively.
In the March 2024 quarter, adjusted gross revenue increased by 9.25 percent, while overall gross revenue for telecom service providers increased by 3.01 percent year over year to Rs 87,926 crore.
As to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) report, the government’s revenue collection from service providers through licence fee (LF) and spectrum use charges (SUC) climbed by more than 10% to Rs 6,506 crore on a year-over-year (YoY) basis.
The Trai Performance Indicator Report for the March 2024 quarter stated, “Gross Revenue (GR), Applicable Gross Revenue (ApGR), and Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) of the telecom service sector for the quarter ended March 2024 has been Rs 87,926 crore, Rs 83,945 crore, and Rs 70,462 crore, respectively.”
According to the report, the GR, ApGR, and AGR YoY rates of increase in the quarter that ended in March 2024 compared to the same quarter in the previous year were 3.01, 6.76, and 9.25 percent, respectively.
From Rs 5,159 crore in the March 2023 quarter to Rs 5,637 crore in the March 2024 quarter, licence fee collection grew by 9.28%.
On a year-over-year basis, the SUC climbed by 15.11% to Rs 869 crore from Rs 755 crore.
