The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) has postponed the West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) prelims exam.
The exam was originally scheduled for November 5, 2023, and how now been rescheduled, with the new date to be announced on the official website, wbpsc.gov.in.
The WBCS Prelim Exam 2023 was initially planned for June 2023 but was later rescheduled to November 5, 2023.
The announcement cites “unavoidable circumstances” for the exam’s postponement from the originally planned date of November 5 (Sunday). Admit cards, initially set for release in the second week of October, will also be delayed. The number of vacancies and the groups (A, B, C, and D) for recruitment will also be announced later.
The notice reads, “Due to unavoidable circumstances the Commission has decided to postpone the West Bengal Civil Service (Exe.) etc. (Preliminary) Examination, 2023 which was tentatively scheduled to be held on 05/11/2023(Sunday). Candidates are requested to visit the Commission’s website at: https://wbpsc.gov.in for further updates in this regard.”

The West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) Exam, also known as the WBCS (Executive) Exam, is a competitive examination administered by the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) with the aim of selecting qualified individuals for various administrative positions within the Government of West Bengal. The examination is conducted annually and consists of three distinct stages:

  1. Preliminary Exam: This stage is an objective-type examination featuring multiple-choice questions that assess candidates’ knowledge of General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
  2. Main Exam: The Main Exam is a written examination that includes descriptive-type questions covering topics such as General Studies, Essays, and an Optional Subject.
  3. Interview: The final stage involves an oral interview to evaluate the candidate’s personality, communication skills, and overall suitability for the respective administrative roles.

Upon successfully completing all three stages of the examination, candidates are finally shortlisted for appointment to various administrative positions within the Government of West Bengal. These positions include roles such as District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Block Development Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Jails, Assistant Superintendent of Excise, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Assistant Registrar of Cooperatives, and a wide array of other roles.
The average salary of WBCS (Executive) officers varies depending on the post they are selected for and their years of service. However, the starting salary for all WBCS (Executive) officers is around Rs. 56,000 per month. In addition to their basic salary, WBCS (Executive) officers are also entitled to various allowances, such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance (TA), and Medical Allowance (MA).
