
Noida : A grand and vibrant celebration marking Vikram Samvat 2083 was organised on March 22, 2026, at Millennium School, Sector 119. The event brought together residents, scholars and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate the traditional Indian New Year with enthusiasm and reverence. An essay competition highlighting the national, historical and cultural significance of the Vikram Samvat was organised, where winners were honoured with mementoes, certificates and prizes.



Seminar highlights cultural and national significance
A thought-provoking seminar on ‘Nav Samvatsar and National Consciousness’ was a key highlight of the programme. Addressing the gathering, chief guest Professor Kapil Kumar emphasised that Vikram Samvat commemorates the victory of Emperor Chandragupta Vikramaditya over foreign invaders, symbolising national pride, valour and dignity.
The day coincides with the birth anniversary of Guru Angad Dev, the second Sikh Guru, who promoted unity and social harmony through the concepts of ‘Sangat’ and ‘Pangat’. The occasion reminds society of the sacrifices made by Sikh Gurus for the protection of Sanatan Dharma.

Focus on women’s respect, scientific heritage and cultural values
Professor Kumar highlighted the cultural ethos of “Yatra Naryastu Pujyante Ramante Tatra Devata,” underlining the importance of respect for women, who are worshipped as divine forms during Navratri.
The Indian Panchang is scientifically structured, based on the movement and positioning of celestial bodies, with months and days named accordingly. Criticizing modern New Year celebrations on January 1, such practices involving alcohol and inappropriate festivities do not align with Indian cultural values.

Message of environmental consciousness and unity
Emphasising environmental awareness, he referred to the concept of nature as ‘Mother Earth’ and stressed the importance of conservation.
Vikram Samvat as a festival symbolising equality, discipline of body and mind and the spirit of sacrifice, courage and strength. The occasion inspires society to move from darkness to light, “Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya” and promotes harmony, peace and mutual respect across the world.

Cultural performances add vibrancy to the event
The programme featured captivating cultural performances. Students from presented a powerful dance performance on ‘Mahishasur Mardini’. Participants including Aarsi Das, Pratiksha Shah, Aparajita Chatterjee, Samriddhi Mandal and Seenu Rai, showcased remarkable talent.
Payal and Satyendra Singh Suman presented a melodious song highlighting the significance of the New Year, adding a soulful touch to the celebration.

Workers associated with outreach initiatives activities were honoured with mementoes for their dedicated efforts.
