Greater Noida West: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the expansion of Aqua Line Metro between Noida and Greater Noida West in the cabinet meeting on Friday, November 22, 2024. Regarding the expansion of the 17.435 km long Aqua Line Metro project, it has been told that Rs 394 crore will be spent by the Government of India and Rs 394 crore by the state government, 40% of the amount will be sanctioned by Noida and 60% by Greater Noida Authority.
It is claimed that work on this line will start within 6 months of the passing of this proposal, but many residents who have been fighting for Greater Noida West Metro for a decade believe that despite being passed by Uttar Pradesh, this project is yet to be passed by the Central Government.
The approval of Metro for Greater Noida West by the Uttar Pradesh government is a welcome step. But this is a step taken very late. The way the proposal was rejected by the PMO despite the tender being issued four times till 2022, we cannot be completely assured until the Prime Minister’s Office approves it. Even before the Lok Sabha elections, there was talk of the metro being built in the next 6 months. It will take a lot of time for the tender to be issued and then the work to be awarded. It will be enough if the foundation stone is laid before 2027.

In such a situation, even though the Noida MP and the three MLAs have started trying to take credit for the project’s approval until the project is passed by the Center, there will be doubts about its construction and start. Last time also, after being passed by the Uttar Pradesh government, it did not get the green signal from the Central Ministry and was sent back for route change.
In such a situation, now after the proposal is passed by the Uttar Pradesh government, the next hope of the residents of Greater Noida West is that the Modi government sitting at the Center will not take 3 years for this like last time.
