The Shivamogga airport, which began offering commercial services on the Bengaluru-Shivamogga route on August 31, 2023, will expand its flight schedule to include direct flights to three additional locations.

The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 27, 2023. The airport is anticipated to provide connectivity to Shivamogga and the popular tourist destination region in Karnataka’s Malnad area.

Star Air, a Bengaluru-based regional airline, is all set to begin winter flights from Shivamogga to the three locations which are Goa, Tirupati, and Hyderabad from November 21, 2023. “Ready to soar to new destinations? Star Air is all set to take you from Shivamogga to Goa, Hyderabad, and Tirupati starting November 21st,” the airline informed while announcing its plan to commence flight services from Shivamogga airport.

“We will connect Shivamogga to Goa, Tirupati and Hyderabad this winter schedule which will commence from October 29 onwards,” said Simran Singh Tiwana, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Star Air, as quoted by The Hindu. He further added that the airline will soon declare which type of aircraft would be deployed as well as the flight frequency.

According to Hindustan Times, only IndiGo currently operates flights between Shivamogga and Bengaluru. Furthermore, six months after its opening, the airport’s first commercial domestic flight touched down in August this year. The ninth domestic airport in Karnataka is located near Shivamogga and is called Kuvempu Airport.

The domestic airports of Karnataka are situated at Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Ballari, Bidar, Mysuru, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, and Mangaluru. In addition, the state’s international airports are in Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
