Greater Noida West: There are big deep drains along Sector-1 of Greater Noida West. Residents have been demanding the covering of this drain for a long time. Greater Noida Authority had also floated a tender in this regard and a letter was also issued to the contractor selected through the tender. But the work of covering the drain has not started yet which is life threatening.

Sameer Bhardwaj, Resident of Supertech Ecovillage-1 says, “There are deep drains on both sides of the society, for which the authority has been requested for many years to be covered. The authority had published a tender for covering the drain on the demand of the residents and the work was awarded to a contractor in May 2023 but even after more than six months, the contractor did not start the work.”
He continues, ” Many times cattle have been struggling to come out, not only cattle anyone can fall in them but this deep and wide they are.”
Vijay Chauhan, Resident of Supertech Ecovillage-1, says, ” By covering the deep drain, it will be very convenient for the pedestrians to leave the society and go to the main road to catch an auto or bus. Every day, cattle keep falling into the drain, which is taken out with the help of the authority, local police and cow service team. Besides, the society residents will also get relief from the foul smell of the drain. But, unfortunately, the work has not started even after the tender.”
Lokesh Tyagi, AOA President of Arihant Arden, says, “A large number of residents from the society go to school, college and work by auto and bus. Due to the drain not being covered, residents faced a lot of difficulty in crossing the drain and catching autos and buses. Seeing the problems of the residents, AOA has constructed a ladder-like structure to cross the drain at its own expense. Was happy when the tender for covering the drain was issued but sad to see the work not starting.”
Last month, on the complaint of residents, ACEO Annapurna Garg had issued an order to blacklist the contractor. Giving the latest information about this, Manoj Sachan, Senior Manager in charge of Work Circle 3 of Greno Authority, said that the matter is in the cognizance of the higher officials of the authority. A notice to blacklist the contractor was issued, after which the contractor completed the formalities before starting the work and got a bond made by depositing security money. Soon the work of covering the drain will be started by the contractor.
