The new Rs 3,000 FASTag Annual Pass has seen a smooth start, with more than five lakh subscriptions in just four days since its August 15 launch. More than one lakh users are opting for the scheme daily on average.

Tamil Nadu led the most number of annual passes purchased over the last four days, an official statement said. It is followed by Karnataka and Haryana. Tamil Nadu has also registered maximum transactions through FASTag Annual Pass at the toll plazas, followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Applicable on about 1,150 toll plazas on National Highways and National Expressways, the annual pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through one-time fee payment of Rs 3,000. The pass, meant only for non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans, allows up to 200 trips on national highways and is valid for one year.

In a post on social media platform X, the NHAI shared the update saying that the national highway and expressway users can opt for the pass by downloading the Rajmargyatra app or visiting nhai.gov.in to activate it on the existing FASTag cards.

“The FASTag has reached yet another milestone in India’s journey towards seamless, technology-driven mobility. With over 5 lakh FASTag Based Annual Pass users onboarded within four days of launch…,” it says.

This initiative is transforming National Highway/National Expressway travel by providing commuters with a faster, convenient and efficient tolling experience, the post reads.

On the first day of the launch by 7 pm, over 1.4 lakh users opted for the pass and 1.39 lakh transitions were recorded.

Promoting the scheme, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that users can say goodbye to toll hassles with the new FASTag based Annual Pass.

“Just Rs 3,000 for one year or up to 200 crossings – seamless, smart, and stress-free travel on highways. No more frequent top-ups, just smooth rides ahead,” he posted on X.

While currently these passes are only for the national highway and expressway, Gadkari last month had assured that his ministry will offer full technical support to states willing to implement the new Rs 3,000 annual FASTag pass on state highways and expressways.

A link for activation and renewal will be available on the Rajmarg Yatra App, and on the websites of NHAI and MoRTH.

With a 98 per cent adoption rate and over 8 crore users, FASTag has already transformed toll collection across India.

This move follows another key reform from last year, under which vehicles without FASTag affixed to windshields are charged double the toll — a step aimed at ensuring smoother operations at toll booths.

The Annual Pass will be activated only after verifying the eligibility of the vehicle and the associated FASTag. Activation is allowed only if the FASTag is properly affixed to the registered vehicle’s windshield.
