SC notice to govt, NTA on pleas for cancelling NEET-UG, seeks response | India News

In response to petitions seeking the cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 and a court-monitored investigation into purported irregularities in the medical entrance exam, the Supreme Court on Thursday requested comments from the Centre, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and other parties.

The NTA filed separate pleas asking for the transfer of several outstanding high court petitions to the supreme court, and a vacation bench made up of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti requested responses from the parties on these as well.

On July 8, the bench scheduled a hearing for these pleas.

Twenty students who took the medical entrance exam submitted one of the petitions, which also asked the NTA and others to conduct the exam again.

The Supreme Court stated on June 18 that even in cases where there was “0.001 per cent negligence” on the part of anyone in the administration of the examination, it should be adequately addressed. The court made this statement while hearing separate pleas about the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate)-2024 examination.

The pre-medical admission exam is administered across India by the NTA.

The Supreme Court last week requested comments from the NTA and the Centre about a request for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into claims of question paper leaks and other irregularities in the exam, while hearing separate petitions voicing complaints about the NEET-UG 2024.

On May 5, 4,750 locations held the exam, which was taken by about 2.4 million participants.
