Greater Noida: Open drains and unsafe roads in Greater Noida have once again come under scrutiny, even after the tragic death of an engineer in a road accident in Noida’s Sector-150. The incident has exposed serious administrative negligence and poor safety planning, raising concerns that another major accident could happen at any time.

The fatal accident occurred around midnight in Sector-150 when a car skidded off the road and fell into an open drain. The victim immediately called his family, informing them that he was trapped inside the vehicle and that it was slowly sinking. In a desperate attempt to survive, he climbed onto the roof of the car, but due to the absence of timely and effective rescue operations, he lost his life.

The victim’s father has accused the authorities of negligence, stating that his son’s life could have been saved if proper rescue equipment and prompt action had been taken. The incident has raised serious questions about the safety measures along roads built next to open drains.

Similar risks in Greater Noida

Although the accident took place in Noida’s Sector-150, similar dangerous conditions exist across Greater Noida. Several areas, including the P-3 Sector, have open drains running alongside roads without proper barricading or warning signs.

P-3 Sector RWA president Amit Bhati warned the administration that Greater Noida faces the same risks. He said that many roads suddenly narrow after widening, creating a high risk of accidents, especially at night when visibility is low.

Growing public anger

Residents are increasingly angry over repeated negligence. Locals say that after every accident, enquiries and assurances are announced, but no visible improvements are made on ground. If open drains are not covered and road safety measures are not strengthened urgently, more lives could be lost.

The key question now is whether the administration will take concrete action or continue waiting for another tragedy to occur.
