Greater Noida: Open and broken drains in Greater Noida city have become a serious threat. According to local citizen and social activist Harendra Bhati, cows are constantly falling in these drains, which has led to many deaths. In fact, on Monday morning a cow was found fallen in an open drain in the city whose video and photo has been shared by Harendra Bhati on social media. This information has been sent to the Greater Noida Development Authority.
ATS roundabout incident in M Block
Bhati said, “Every third-fourth day, Gaumata or Nandi fall into these broken drains. We have demanded the Greater Noida Authority officials to get these drains repaired for several months, but no action has been taken.” He said that today a cow fell into the drain near the ATS roundabout in M Block of Sector Delta Three. This incident shows the seriousness of this problem.
Falling into drains is a deadly incident for animals
“Falling into these drains not only injures the animals but they can also die due to drowning in dirty water or due to infection. This is a very sad situation,” said Dr Rakesh Yadav, a local veterinarian. Harendra Bhati has demanded the CEO and ACEO of Greater Noida Authority take immediate cognizance of the matter. “This is not just negligence but criminal indifference. Appropriate action should be taken against the officials responsible,” he said.
Many residents of the city have also expressed concern over the issue. Sunil Sharma, a resident says, “It is dangerous not only for the animals but also for our children. Anyone can fall into these open drains.” An official of the Greater Noida Authority, on the condition of anonymity, said, “We are aware of the problem and it will be resolved soon. We have prepared a plan to repair the drains.”
‘The authority makes plans only on paper’
However, local citizens are not satisfied with this assurance. They are demanding that the authority submit a time-bound action plan and implement it immediately. Meanwhile, animal rights activists have threatened legal action on the issue. They are saying that if the situation does not improve soon, they will approach the court. Kaveri Rana Bhardwaj said, “The Greater Noida Development Authority makes plans only on paper. No work is done on the ground. There is no place for animals in this hi-tech city. Residents of Greater Noida are now hoping for a quick solution to this serious problem so that no more lives are lost and the city can be safe.
